Get Wifi on your smartphone on campus

Get Wifi on your SmartphoneDid you know that you can connect to the wireless internet on campus with your Smartphone as long as you have a University login? If you have an Android, iPhone, or Windows phone,  and want to access the wireless internet on campus (Eduroam)  then please use the guides below. Please note that not all phones are 100% compatible with Eduroam so in some cases you won’t be able to connect :(

Android (2.3 or higher)

-          Menu

-          Settings

-          Wireless & Networks

-          Wi-Fi Settings

-          Enter storage password (local to phone)

-          EAP method – PEAP

-          Phase 2 Authentication – MSCHAPV2

-          Identity – username@canterbury.ac.uk (eg. ab123@canterbury.ac.uk)

-          Anonymous Identity – username@canterbury.ac.uk (eg. ab123@canterbury.ac.uk)

-          Wireless password – CCCU password

-          Connect

-          Menu

-          Advanced

-          Wi-fi proxy

-          Enable Wi-fi proxy

-          Wifi Proxy Host = wproxy.canterbury.ac.uk

-          Wifi Proxy port = 3128

Please note: Eduroam will only work on Android handsets with version 2.3 or higher.  Also, any apps that require internet access (Facebook app, Ebay etc) will not work.

 

iPhone

-          Settings

-          Wifi – On

-          Select blue circle to the right of eduroam

-          HTTP Proxy = Auto

-          URL = http://wpad.canterbury.ac.uk/wpad.dat

-          Exit and select Eduroam

-          username@canterbury.ac.uk (eg. ab123@canterbury.ac.uk)

-          CCCU password

-          Accept certificate

 

Windows Phone

-          Settings

-          Wifi

-          Username@canterbury.ac.uk (eg. ab123@canterbury.ac.uk)

-          CCCU password

-          Wait for connection to fail and select advanced

-          Proxy = http://wproxy.canterbury.ac.uk/wpad.dat

-          Port 3128

 

Blackberry (Playbook tablet ONLY)

-          Wifi

-          Select Eduroam

-          Go to advanced

-          Ensure the connection type is set to PEAP in the first box and MSCHAPV2 in the second.

-          Select “Enter wifi proxy URL”

-          Enter http://wproxy.canterbury.ac.uk

-          Enter username@canterbury.ac.uk and the password at the top of the screen.  DO NOT enter it in the username/password field at the bottom, leave it blank.

-          Select connect.
