If a student is considered to have contravened the Student Code of Conduct available HERE and they are studying a professional programme, or they are studying a professional programme and it is considered that have contravened the Code of Conduct of the professional body with whom they are qualifying, then their Head of Department can call the student to a Fitness to Practise Panel. The University Fitness to Practise procedure can be found HERE it outlines the conduct of the panel and the possible outcomes of a Fitness to Practise Panel hearing. Prepare for the meeting by writing a statement that explains your side of the story, the case in chronological order, and your reasons behind any actions, this can be submitted to the panel before the meeting.
All students are entitled to representation from the Students’ Union at Fitness to Practise Panel hearings. Arrange to meet with the Students’ Union Advice Caseworker (ellie.martin@canterbury.ac.uk) in good time before the meeting in order to go through the case and prepare. In your email please give a brief explanation of the situation and include your course, year and campus
NB: with Nursing and Midwifery programmes, students are goverened by the NMC guidelines. The HCPC guidelines have similar regulations for Social Work, ODP, OT, Paramedic and Radiography students.
