Got questions about your results?

Now you've all finished your exams, all you can think about is Results Day - have I passed or failed?

Here the Students' Union have answered some of the most commonly asked questions to help you feel a bit more relaxed!

When are results released?

GMS Results will be release by 6pm on:

  • Level 4 (year one) 6th July

  • Level 5 (year two) 5th July

  • Level 6 (year three) 28th June

How do they calculate my degree?

Your degree is calculated using the best 100 credits from years 2 and 3 it is then weighted 60:40 year 3 to year 2. For most programmes which have 20 credit modules this means that it is only your best 5 modules which count toward your degree so you get the opportunity to ‘drop your lowest module’ from each year.

To calculate this yourself use our handy online tool: http://ccsu.co.uk/advice/degreecalculator/

Make sure you enter the Raw Module Marks from your online academic summary (not rounded up or down to the nearest whole). NB: this tool will not work for programmes which have 10 credit modules, some programmes may have other specific pass requirements. This is only an SU tool and not the actual mark you will get, this will be determined by the University Results.

What do I need to pass?

In order to pass you must get 40%. You need to get 40% in all modules; but you will be allowed to compensate one module if it is above 35% (unless you are on an NMC Pathway or studying Social Work).

What are the grade bandings?

  • 40-49% is a 3rd

  • 50-59% is a 2:2

  • 60-69% is a 2:1

  • 70% and above is a First

What if I don’t get 40%?

If you don’t manage to pass you will be entitled to

reassessments on any assessments you have not passed. You will be emailed a Notification of reassessments (NOR) detailing what you are entitled to do as reassessments. You must then make sure you know what is due in when and if you have exams when you are due to come back to sit them. Unfortunately if you have to do reassessments you will not get to graduate in September, but will be graduating in January instead.

GMS Resits and Sits – some further information - If you have any resits or sits to undertake, the notification of these will be issued to you by 6pm the day after your results have been issued, via direct email to your University email address. This email is formally known as your Notification of Reassessment (NoR). Please check your personal details to make sure your home address and contact phone numbers are correct. The university will use this information if they need to contact you about your results and, if you are receiving an award, to post out your degree certificate

Will my overall average be rounded up?

So you have filled in our little online calculator and got 39.5, 49.5, 59.5 or 69.5…… The University will round this up to the nearest whole number and you will just scrape into the next grade banding! Phew!

What if I get a 58 or a 69.4?

If you get an overall average of just below a grade banding, for example 58 or 69.4, then that is a shame but unfortunately there is nothing you can really do about it. To find 2% is actually about 20 marks!

Can I appeal?

If you are unhappy with your results, you cannot appeal. You can’t appeal just because you think you should have got better results or you are just so close to the next grade banding.

You could only appeal if there was a genuine reason why you could not perform to the best of your ability, for which you have professional evidence and there is a genuine reason why you could not have informed the unviersity of this at the time.

In order to appeal you would need to provide professional evidence. If an appeal is upheld the university will not just change your grade, they may offer you the opportunity to do then work again to try and achieve a better grade but they will not just give you that extra 1%!
