Full-time Positions

The Sabbaticals are full-time positions running from July-July and these positions are not only paid but also provide experience in:

Role Responsibility Time Commitment
President Overall responsibility, co-ordination of Union personnel, Finance and financial accountability, involvement and participation, external relations, strategic planning, campaigns, Union democracy, NUS Liaison, a member of the Board of Trustees. The leader of the SU! 1 Year Full Time Paid
Vice President Welfare and Education Education and Welfare campaigns, housing awareness, liaison with the Student Representatives, Education and Welfare Policy Development, Finance and financial accountability, Student Support Services liaison, Raise and Give, Welfare services, day to day running of the Union, a member of the Board of Trustees. 1 Year Full Time Paid
Vice President Student Activities Running Societies, Unified (the newspaper), CSR 97.4fm (the radio station), CCTV (the television station), Societies Federation Executive, online development, finance and financial accountability, day to day running of the Union, a member of the Board of Trustees. 1 Year Full Time Paid
Vice President Sports Sports Clubs, affiliations, Varsity, Sports Federation Dinner, Sports Federation Executive, BUSA liaison, SESSA liaison, Sports Federation democracy, sports strategic planning, finance and financial accountability, day to day running of the Union, a member of the Board of Trustees. 1 Year Full Time Paid

Part-time Positions

There are also 26 part-time elected officers who form Union Council. Each represents the views and interests of a specific demographic of Student, or has a specific remit (such as the Community Officer who exists to promote good working relationships with the local community). A full list of the positions available can be found below. Please note that due to the nature of some of the positions, some are elected in October.

Time Committment: Average 1.5 hours per week

POSITION REMIT
MATURE STUDENTS OFFICER Ensuring the interests of mature students are represented, mature student campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
ETHNIC MINORITIES OFFICER Ensuring the interests of students from an ethnic minority are represented, campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
INTERNATIONAL OFFICER Ensuring the interests of international students are represented, international student campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, TRANSGENDERED (LGBT) OFFICER Ensuring the interests of LGBT students are represented, LGBT campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
WOMEN’S OFFICER Ensuring the interests of female students are represented, female student campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
SATALLITE CAMPUS OFFICER Ensuring the needs and interests of students studying at satellite sites are represented and promoted. Includes Folkestone and Tonbridge.
5x BROADSTAIRS COMMITTEE
Representing the views and interests of all students based at the Broadstairs campus, both recretational, educational, political and social.  Liaising with the other Officers where relevant and feeding back ideas and new initiatives to the Union for implementation where possible
WELFARE OFFICER To assist the VP Welfare and Education with welfare campaigns, events and activities
EDUCATION OFFICER To assist the VP Welfare and Education with educational campaigns, events and activities, and work with the Student Representatives
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (SWD) OFFICER Ensuring the interests of disabled students are represented, disability campaigns, fighting discrimination and promoting awareness.
COMMUNITY OFFICER Working with the President to promote and foster good working relationships with the local community, including campaigns such as ‘I Love My Canterbury’
ENTERTAINMENT OFFICER Leading the Events Crew, assisting with Fresher’s Week, running weekly entertainment and events in the Students’ Union
ETHICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER Promoting ethical and environmental campaigns and awareness
CAMPAIGNS OFFICER Assisting the VP Welfare and Education Officer and the other Union officers with campaigns, and leading campaigns to do with students on any issue.
SPORTS OFFICER Assisting the VP Sports with Varsity, Sports Federation Dinner and other sporting events. Promoting Sports to the student body. Must be a member of a sports club.
SOCIETIES OFFICER Assisting the VP Student Activities with society development, Society’s Federation and other society activities. Must be a member of a society.
POSTGRADUATE OFFICER Representing the views and opinions of all students on postgraduate courses (taught and research), feedback ideas and new initiatives to the Union for implementation where possible, assist with gathering information, working alongside other Officers where relevant.
INTER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING (IPL) OFFICER Representing the views and opinions of all students on IPL courses (Health and Education), feedback ideas and new initiatives to the Union for implementation where possible, assist with gathering information, working alongside other Officers where relevant.
UNION CHAIR To Chair Union Council and the Annual General Meeting, ensuring that all business is conducted in line with the Union rules and regulations.  Preparing the agenda and tracking attendance from the other Officers.
RAG OFFICER Responsible for running the RAG Society and raising lots of money for charity doing fun and exciting things.
REP OFFICER Representing the Student Representatives of each programme within the University, being the link between the Student Reps and the Union in regards to broad University aspects

The other part-time position available is Student Trustee.
