Students’ Union temporary office move – Find us in RF11 from next week

The Students’ Union is moving to a brand new building in September, the St. George’s Student Centre, located between Rochester House and the Odeon Cinema on St George’s Street, Canterbury, but the SU team will be moving to temporary offices in the meantime.

Find us in the Ramsey building

After this week (from 21st May 2012) you will find the SU staff and officers in RF11 (First Floor, Ramsey Building) and they will be there for 10 weeks over the summer until we move into our new SU offices, which will include cafe, social area, bar, studyzone, etc (find out more here).

This week we are moving out of the current student building but you can still collect Summer Ball tickets from there, or just go to RF11 from next week.

The bar will still be open until Friday 25th when we are having a massive farewell party.

Sustainability Champions Filmclub Screening ‘GASLAND’

SUSTAINABILITY CHAMPIONS FILMCLUB will be screening ‘GASLAND’ by Director Josh Fox Tuesday 22nd May, Pg.06 (Canterbury) from 5.30pm.

This film focuses on communities in the United States impacted by natural gas drilling and, specifically, a stimulation method known as hydraulic fracturing, or FRACKING.

Last month the UK government gave the ‘go ahead’ to companies to use the same technique for shale gas removal here in the UK. To engage with this, our screening will be followed by a debate led by a member of the ‘Deal With It’ Kent anti-fracking campaign group.

The Summer Ball Is Sold Out! Funfair Tickets still available!

Demand for the Summer Ball has been huge and as of yesterday afternoon we officially SOLD OUT and have no more tickets for sale. There is some good news though as we are now selling ‘Funfair Only’ tickets which will allow those who missed out on tickets to get access to the funfair from between 6pm-8pm and this only costs £15 for a ticket which admits upto 5 people so it really is a bargain if you are missing out on the Ball.

LGBT Awareness Day

We are holding an LGBT awareness day today (May 4th) to create awareness but to also celebrate our successful network of LGBT students who this year have gone above and beyond the role of a society. You will also notice that the website has taken on an LGBT vibe. The National Union of Students this year named CCSU’s LGBT society in the top 5 most developed societies in the UK which is something to be proud about. This year also so the first cohort of students sent to National Student Pride for the first time, in Brighton.

Head to the SU from 7pm this evening for a “Love Music, Hate Homophobia” themed night.

Christ Church Students’ Union will be moving out of their home for the past 27 years and we thought we should have a party to celebrate the good times!

When is it?

The last ever night in the Students’ Union is taking place on Friday 25th May from 8pm and with demand sure to be massive it will be first come first serve on the door so get there as early as you can! Join the Facebook Event.

Theme for the Night – Come As You Were

The theme for the evening is ‘Come as you were‘, so wear your old sports kit, your old SU shirts, or anything from your era at Christ Church.

This isn’t marketing hype, we really are going to sell out the Summer Ball this year so if you want to see Rizzle Kicks, Rev Run, Sara Cox, Kids In Glass Houses, and many more then you’d better buy a ticket quick. The Ball takes place on Friday 1st June at the Canterbury Campus and this is the BIGGEST Summer Ball we’ve ever had.

Tickets are only £40 each and if you group together with housemates etc and buy in one transaction then you can also take advantage of our ‘Buy 5 Get 1 Free‘ offer.

Athletics Varsity: Tuesday 1 May at 6.15pm

Let the games begin. Athletics Varsity event featuring Canterbury Christ Church University Athletics, University of Kent Athletics and Invicta Athletics Club.

The first athletics Varsity event will take place at the athletics track Club Headquarters, The Canterbury Academy, Knight Avenue, Canterbury, Kent, CT2 8QA from 6.15pm on Tuesday 1 May; community races will also be taking place.
