Vote online from Monday

This year sees us switch over from the traditional paper ballot voting system and over to electronic voting with aim that this will allow more students than ever to have their say and cast their vote. In the past not everyone has been able to come onto campus and physically complete their ballot form and not everyone has had the time to send off a postal ballot, so we hope that this system will allow everyone a fair chance to vote so we will have a more democratic election process.

To vote you simply need to login to StudentNet (www.canterbury.ac.uk/student) and follow the voting link on the homepage. This will send you to the Students’ Union voting site and you will be able to vote securely for any or all the positions you like.

It really is that easy. Voting opens 9am Monday 27th February and closes 5pm on Friday 2nd March with results to follow at 8pm.

Nominations forms are completed online at http://ccsu.co.uk/elections/stand-for-a-position/ so hurry up over there.

Trysport has had a great start to the year with over 250 students and staff getting involved in all the activities on offer! If you’ve not yet taken up the opportunity to give something a go for 5 weeks for a very student friendly £5 there is still the time with plenty on offer at each campus! You don’t need to be a pro- in fact beginners are welcome, it’s all about having fun, trying something new and developing your skills, you never know you might have a hidden talent!

Before term ends we’re squeezing in lots of new sessions like zumba, climbing, handball, basketball, badminton and much more! Check out www.canterbury.ac.uk/trysport to find out days and times for your campus and to book your place (if you are on placement and can’t make all 5 just turn up to ones you can make and pay £1!).

We have 4 full-time paid positions available and to be eligable for these you will need to either be in your final year of study or be willing to take a year out of your studies. We also have lots of volunteer part-times positions too, and these require about 1.5 hours a week of your time but the benefits you can get back can be great giving you new experiences and new skills whilst doing something that will look great on your CV.

The Jubilee visit, hosted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robin Baker, will take place on Friday 24 February.

Staff and students are warmly invited to join the Chancellor, Dr Rowan Williams, for an open Question and Answer session. This will take place from 4.20pm until 5pm in The Old Sessions House, Og46. The session will be chaired by Dr Janet Haddock-Fraser, Dean of Social and Applied Sciences and will be your opportunity to ask the Archbishop any question you wish to. Questions do not need to be submitted in advance.

Earlier in the day, the Chancellor will also be meeting with academic colleagues and BA Politics and International Relations students.

The Chancellor will be joined on his visit by the Primates of the Indian Ocean, Most Revd Ian Ernest; of Rwanda, the Most Revd Onesphore Rwaje; and of Southern Cone, Most Revd Hector (Tito) Zavala.

Booking is not essential for the open Question and Answer session, but we would be grateful if staff could inform the Vice-Chancellor’s Office if they wish to attend by emailing Anna Johns.

I hope you will join us in this very special opportunity to meet with the Archbishop.

We have full-time paid positions and also part-time positions for students who are still studying but there really is something for everyone. It’s not only a great chance to get involved with students and make a real difference to their lives but it’s also a great way of gaining new experiences, working within a team, gaining new skills, and also doing something that will look great on your CV.

Changes at the Annual General Meeting last year now means that any student can nominate anyone for Membership, and all nominations will be voted on at the Tell Us! session on the 31st January 2012 at 4.30pm in Augustine Hall.
