Are you being told that you need to get your housing for next year now? Have you been told by others that all the “good” housing goes before Christmas? Don’t listen to these myths. Christ Church Students’ Union and Home Stamp – Canterbury’s Housing Accreditation Scheme, along with Kent Union and UCA Students’ Union are telling students to WAIT until January to start looking for a property for next academic year. You should not be pushed into getting a house sorted this early on in the year.
Our advice is to wait until January 2016. It is a huge decision to enter into a contract that will cost you a lot of money and often will rely on you being able to cover the cost for one of your friends if they drop out (Joint Tenancy Agreements). Things may be all great now but what happens if someone decides to leave or you guys fall out? What if someone just doesn't come back after Christmas Break?
You may think that all the best houses will go before then, but don’t panic there is plenty of student housing in Canterbury and just because the agents are saying hurry up, remember they are the ones to whom you are going to be handing over a lot of cash!
