Broadstairs Cash Machine

Some of you may have heard that Canterbury is to be getting a ‘free-to-use’ cash machine in their Student Building, and I just wanted to update you all on this and how it affects Broadstairs as I have looked into getting this for the Broadstairs Campus too.
Canterbury are now able to offer this because they reached the end of their contract with their current supplier, and were free to explore new options, but Broadstairs is only halfway through a 5 year contract and so until June 2011 we will have a cash machine that charges.
The cash point was installed due to the requests of students at a Student Forum meeting in 2006, and although it was pointed out that there are free cash points locally, the students still wished for one on campus as a convenience. I have used the machine several times when I’ve really needed it but the Students’ Union never actively promotes the cash machine and we would always say that it’s best to use a machine that doesn’t charge, most likely at either Tesco or Asda if you are on campus.
One thing to note is that you can still get free statements from the machine and also use it to top up your pay-as-you-go mobile phones without a charge, so it’s not all bad.
