Notorious
“Notorious” is about the life of rapper Christopher Wallace a.k.a. Notorious B.I.G. In just a few short years, ‘Biggy’, rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. B.I.G. was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility. His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation.
‘Notorious’ shows the flaws ‘Biggy’ had, but definitely accentuates his good points, probably down to the producers being his mum; Violetta Wallace and his mentor, Sean ‘Puff Daddy/P-Diddy/Diddy/Puffy/Whatever he is called now!’ Combes. Even ‘Biggy’s’ son is in the film, movingly playing his dad as a boy.
The real gem in the film however, is Jamal Woolard, and his portrayal of the man himself. He’s got the whole ‘B.I.G’ package, from his swagger, to his head tilt, right up to his flow whilst rapping some of Biggies biggest hits.
Starring multiple award winner Angela Bassett as Christopher’s mother Voletta Wallace, Derek Luke as Sean Combs, Anthony Mackie as Tupac Shakur and introducing Jamal Woolard as The Notorious B.I.G. Directed by George Tillman Jr, also of the Barborshop/Beautyshop series.
Follow his meteoric rise to fame and his refusal to succumb to expectations - redefining our notion of “The American Dream.”
