Varsity 2009
Well where to start? This year has easily been the most successful varsity to date for Christ Church University. We as a sports federation pulled together amazingly, knocking Kent onto the back foot in every match we played. It is a very proud moment for me, as I am sure it is for every single one of you.
The score currently stands at 15-12 to UKC with three games left to play, and if we win all three, bringing the final score to a draw; it’ll all go down to a sudden death. I feel comfortable to say they don’t deserve the wins they have achieved; we as a federation trained harder and were more prepared mentally and physically. This became amazingly evident this year with the effort you all put in, hopefully we have set a trend and raised the bench mark for our teams in the years to come. Your attitudes and efforts this year have proved that such events as Varsity are no longer a one horse race and that we are a force to be reckoned with.
We are miniscule as a federation compared to them with less facilities and hardly any money to throw at sports. However these were disregarded by all of you this year, you put your heads down, put in the hard work and put up a fight which I feel more than proud to say I had the honour to be a part of. For all these reasons I tip my hat to all of you. It is amazing what you can do when you work together and put your minds to it.
“God your teams have got better this year!” - Cai Robbins, UKC sports sabbatical on the topic of varsity.
It’s most certainly been a Varsity year I will never forget.
