Uni Life - paying too much for our studies, delayed student loans, and no one will employ us!

Student life is supposed to be all about endless parties and drinking coffee in the campus cafeteria between lectures. Or this is at least what we see in the films. Of course there are the hard studying and the exams but in general being a student should be a fun part of everybody’s life. Unfortunately there are always two sides of the coin. For many students life is slipping somewhere between a tight budget, calculating every night out and working a lot in order to support themselves, if they are lucky enough to find a job. That is kind of a mission impossible these days. I know it is credit crunch’s fault, bla, bla….

Lately I was rejected because: “I know too much German.” The Ad was about a German speaking interviewer but the nice lady told me that they won’t hire me because I speak German fluently and they need somebody with an average knowledge so they can pay them less. I assured her that I will be satisfied with what they were offering but apparently it was a firm policy and she could not do anything about it. Almost the same answer I have got from a High street shop – I have too much experience. But in general no one is even bothering to make a rejection call or email. You just have to guess.

After I lost any hope for finding a job that is not connected with serving bier I tried every café, pub and restaurant in Canterbury. Guess what? Nothing, a big zero. And this is not just me. Most of my friends are in the same skint situation. Is it really possible that there is no job left in Canterbury or I have a really bad luck?
