About Us

The LGBT+ Society is a 'safe space' society where we celebrate being part of a diverse community. The society is not just limited to those within this category, we're open to and accepting of everybody, regardless of their identity. Anyone on the spectrum of sexuality or gender identity is welcome to find a comfortable place within our society, to make friends and build experiences! But we are not limited to people who are in the LGBT+ community, any allies are more than welcome to join! The Society is a safe and friendly environment in which students can come together without fear of being judged for being different.  Also the best part about our Society is that we’re more like a family. We’re different people from different places who have come together to make new friends and are willing to help whenever we can and just have a good time.

We love to do film nights, Camp Coffee socials and gaming hang out sessions, as well as visiting Tokyo Tea Room's Glitterbombs and attending other societies' takeovers! We also hope and aim to do more alternative socials, like bowling, pub crawls, and movie nights just to name a few. We know student life can get expensive, so we're open to your suggestions for socials and hope you can come up with some wonderful new ideas :) We also aim to do more joint socials with other societies. One of our biggest aims is to promote awareness and education, for people outside the community and within.

We also have a discord server! One perk of our membership is that you can access voice channels within this server and hang out with people in soc any time! We have various sections for hobbies and video games, as well as channels for suggestions, for things people may think others would find interesting!

We also organise a variety of charity events and aim to do one each term. Previously, we had great success with a Burlesque night which was a charity event the LGBT+ Society organised to raise money for World AIDS Day. This night involved the contribution of various other societies to perform acts throughout the night as well as a top class burlesque act, The Tuttie Fruities. We've also had a collaboration with UKC's Drag Society, featuring an array of wonderful local drag artists, including Daddy Sparkles, to raise money for the Terrence Higgins Trust. Both of these nights were hugely successful and great entertainment for everyone who attended whilst also raised money for an important charity, something we aim to achieve every year. We have since had lots of stalls - Christmas sales, cake sales etc to raise money for LGBT+ and mental health charities.

If in doubt, come along and say hello or feel free to message anyone on committee - we're a friendly bunch who are always happy to help! We look forward to having you join us!
