Max Elvin

Hello, my name is Max Elvin;

I am a current Masters by Research student, and I am running for the role of your new President (Engagement and Sports) 2022/23.

After a hard year of adjustments, numerous lockdowns, and rule changes, it’s fair to say we’ve still got a little way to go before getting back to normality. Although, that said, what a fantastic year it’s been considering all the mitigating factors; we’ve seen the return of physical lectures, sports, and (most importantly) socials! The current CCSU Officers have done a fantastic job and I intend to build upon their efforts, to ensure the continuation of an amazing student experience.

Please see my Manifesto points below:

Engagement:

I intend to expand the Union’s engagement, and will look to achieve this by doing the following:

  • Introduce more engagement amongst the disabled student community to ensure the best possible experience for all students.
  • Flat Cookalongs – introduce a weekly drop-in cooking session, aimed at teaching students quick and easy recipes whilst promoting healthy eating.
  • Continue to build on Maddy Young’s work to further develop the relationship between societies and sports teams. I intend to work closely with the new President (Campaigns and Societies) to facilitate this initiative.

Sport:

I intend to facilitate the continued rebuilding of Team Christ Church after these tough past years, striving to ensure Covid-19 does not get the better of the C4 Community:

  • Path to Polo – I would like to work with the necessary bodies to implement some form of safe pathway leading to Polo Farm, to improve accessibility for all students.
  • Sport on Campus – targeting the removal of the static Moore building to allow for a space for sport once again.
  • Introduce forms of disability sport to provide a more inclusive Team Christ Church Community and experience.
  • Facilitating further participation in sport by working closely with Christ Church Sport & Active Health to promote the available sports teams and clubs.
  • Work closely with the Student’s Union President to relieve Wednesdays of lectures to allow more students to participate in sporting competition.

Wellbeing:

In terms of wellbeing, I intend to work closely with all elected Sabbatical Officers to ensure the pursuit of wellbeing opportunities for all students:

  • Continue to provide wellbeing events for all students such as, Puppy Days, with the addition of ‘Flat Cookalongs’.
  • Continuation of Cool Down Thursdays to address mental health and wellbeing of students.
  • Work closely with the wellbeing team to safeguard our students and provide clear access to their services.

During this academic year, I have worked closely with Maddy Young as an acting member of the Executive Committee to pursue the completion of her own Manifesto Points. This has provided an insight as to the workings of the Christ Church Student’s Union and has acted to motivate me to pursue an active role in the fantastic work they do to provide students with the best possible experience. I am extremely passionate to have the opportunity to work towards achieving the mentioned manifesto points, to provide a better experience for all students attending Canterbury Christ Church University.

Thank you for taking the time to read my manifesto.
