Manifesto

Hi, my name is Inés, I am a third-year student, doing combined honors in Sociology and Criminology and I am running to be President (Community, Diversity and Inclusion) 2022/23.

I have been really involved in Christ Church Sports, specifically in Women’s Hockey; I have been part of committee for the past two years, as the social secretary, a position that has allowed me to not only get closer to my teammates but also to make everyone feel included and comfortable.

I do believe I have the means and passion to fulfil this role and to make a difference.

If elected, the main priorities and changes would be:

Community

  • Work with the Canterbury City Council to help the university and student be in good terms with the city.
  • Work with Kent Police to make sure that students feel safe at night, especially when going on a night out.
  • Continue working with the Student Green Office and Ecostudents to make sure we keep helping reduce the carbon footprint as well as more eco-friendly practices.
  • Make sure that student voices are heard specially in other campuses like Medway.

Diversity

  • Work with different societies and the university to keep promoting diversity and to keep raising money for different charities.
  • Continue the work of the SU, of hosting different important events, to raise awareness and visibility.
  • Working with the Student Union President to make sure international students get all the support they need, especially regarding university timetables and exam dates.
  • Keep on working with university to close the BAME in regards to the non-continuation gap, attainment gap and graduate employment gap.

Inclusion

  • Keep working with President (Sports and Engagement) to do mandatory trainings for committee members, including training on trans and non-binary inclusion, unconscious prejudice, and disability awareness.
  • Helping international students feel more included by working with the international student society and helping with any queries, such as visas and job permits - especially since Brexit.
  • Keep working with the university and the national framework Athena Swan, that helps fight the gender gap and gender equality.
  • Work with the LGBT+ Society to keep facilitating awareness and education, regarding history and inclusivity.

Wellbeing

  • Keep up Chooseday Chill.
  • Improve the wellbeing support for our students in every campus, especially after the pandemic.
  • Keep working with the President (Campaigns and Societies) to run wellbeing campaigns and including Sexual Health, Drug Awareness, Period Poverty and Consent.
  • Work with the wellbeing team to be able to make it more accessible and make sure students know where to go when needed
