Christ Church Students’ Union are very happy to announce, after successfully working with the University, the 24 hour opening of Augustine House Library for a trial period from 1st November until 23rd December 2016.

As a busy time for students with many assignments to complete, we know the extended opening times will make a big difference to students, allowing for increased flexibility, and helping you succeed with your learning and balancing your workload.

A big win

This represents a big win for Union President, David Hannaway and President for Education & Wellbeing, Phil Semmens, who made 24-hour library opening times a key part of their elections manifestos and is supported your student surveys comments, showing how your feedback helps the Union and University improve your student experience.

David Hannaway, Union President said “Working with the University to make this happen is a fantastic result for students, Phil and I are so happy to have helped make a major one of our manifesto points a reality. We’re sure this trial will show the demand from Christ Church students for a 24 hour library and is the first step on the road towards a permanent solution.”

Looking forward

Students are being asked to base themselves on the ground floor in the first instance, particularly on quieter nights, to help with energy efficiency of the building and to support Security and Housekeeping. But don’t worry, you can still access other floors to get books.

Out of regular hours, access is limited to CCCU students by showing your University Smart Card and the library will operate on a self service basis. Services such as Student Support, iZone, Unitemps, etc will continue to operate under their regular hours. The Atrium cafe seating area will remain open with vending machines selling food and drink to keep you going through the night.

David continues to campaign for his manifesto pledge to get more PC’s and extra double screens installed in the library and is working with the University to bring this to fruition, keep an eye on his blogs for updates. Christmas opening details will be announced soon.
