CCSU LogoOn Friday 23rd October the elected Officers of Christ Church Students’ Union organised a peaceful protest as a show of solidarity following the recent court case involving the tragic death of Christ Church student Robert Chavda and the subsequent unacceptable treatment of Robert's housemates and their families by local student landlord, Werner Toogood - Director of Student Lettings Agency (SLA).

Over a hundred students attended the protest outside the SLA offices at St. George's Place, Canterbury, to make a moral stand for student tenant rights and their wellbeing. Although the offices appeared empty there was plenty of support from passers by and pedestrians.

Sophie Dudley, President (Student Activities) said “Whilst we are not disputing the legal aspects of this case, we feel that it was a delicate situation that should’ve been met with more compassion, humanity and understanding by SLA.”

Christ Church Students’ Union is keen to work with students, landlords and agencies, through accreditation schemes such as HomeStamp, to improve student housing and tenancy agreements and we will always champion students’ rights through campaigning and peaceful action.
