Why do you want to apply for an Officer position?

Hey my name is Sam and I would like to represent you as your President (Academic Life). I believe that I can make a long and lasting change for many students when it comes to their courses and academic experiences. Along with this I believe that celebrating successes is a key part of this and I can help to show this if I am to become your President (Academic Life). I understand that Academia is not an easy road and can make changes that can make this an easier path to take for all students no matter their background. As a member of an academic society I want to grow and expand the academic link between the course staff and societies to ensure the success of all academic societies through the staff support that can be given to these groups.

What are your priorities?

  1. To improve the academic support and experience of Mature Students, ensuring that the gap between educational experiences are minimised and students feel prepared.
  2. To represent and advocate the voices of all students at academic board meetings, and throughout the university to ensure the experiences are promoted.
  3. To improve the experiences of students needing to undergo reassessment, making the process as smooth and informed as possible.
  4. Support academic societies to grow and evolve into a society that is promoted and celebrated by both students and lecturers.

What skills and experience do you have that would make you a good Officer?

I have been involved with the student union since 2022, being on both the Union Council, Board of Trustees and Executive Societies Committee, and believe i have the commitment, passion and drive to best serve the academic interests of students. Students deserve value for their money and now more than ever we need to ensure that the university offers the best education money can buy.

As a mature student I understand the tenacity and skills needed to debate and fight for the rights of students. I have experience advocating for less heard groups, where i helped set up the first charity run by and for young people from care and this organisation led debated and campaigns at a national level. Major success such as the Leaving Care Act were helped to be developed as a result of my work.

As an individual I have experience of fighting for improvements and change within the social care system, making sure the best outcomes were obtained for the people and staff i supported.

I am a dedicated and hard working individual who will work to the best of my ability to ensure the very best outcomes for the student educational journey!
