Sorry I am not able to make it to hustings, I had a doctors appointment :)) But I hope this manifesto reintroduces some of the ideas I had last year too.

A few ideas I want to bring forward:

~qwickly~

Make it not mandatory to attend lectures. If they are still dead set attendance for lessons are mandatory which in our case now is just PDPCP1, Id recommend making it online compulsory attendance as it is not fair most of out system based is online.

Around Half of cohort is postgrads and some of them make long commutes here for the mandatory attendance and have work to attend as well. Its best they have leeway and attendance doesn’t have to be mandatory. We can perhaps livestream and people can watch from home. Stop unnecessary commuting ie people living away from campus having to travel for a one hour lecture then go back home again.

~ nap rooms in pears and verena with bean bags ~ Idea bought up - think its a great one and very important in exam season when a lot of time is spent in those

certain locations revising

~Summer and Christmas balls~

~Group activities~

more group activities through the year for people to get to know each other more and to gel both years together. Could arrange a range of activities so the whole cohort gets involved and feels included.

We are in this together!

~Study group~

There are certain people who don’t like individual studying and like to be in groups with people bouncing ideas-

Could have them put their names forward to be in groups and they can arrange days they want to study together and where.

~BSL~ (british sign language)

Initially i want to introduce this idea to the students as a way to be able to communicate better with patients on placement and when they flourish as F1s and later on go to specialise. There is a BSL society for UKC for people interested but if the majority of both cohorts want to join we can have our own with UKC BSLsoc in collaboration. There are a few of us already in the society, if you wanted to find out more, contact me.

~Collaborating with Medsocs nationally~

I wanna collaborate with other medsocs around the country so we can have social and academic events with other unis to better our experience. Also can bounce ideas and improve our experience here.

ie- Collab with BSMS medsoc to host an event in brighten if anyone was interested

~Passing the year~

I want work with lead academic rep to push for changes in the assessments to benefit students but not at the expense of the med schools criteria for graduation. this includes for having a safety net in place ie possible resits. This has been discussed and there are now proposals but I will work with the uni to communicate the effects and if students want to feedback anything.

I believe i’m suited to this role of president as in the past, I was a member of the student council which enabled me to gain the skills to mediate problems between my peers and teachers as well as relay everyone’s ideas and help bring them to life, which I will do for you all.

I also know the huge implications mental health has on our academic progress. I want help create a stigma free community for mental health in our university. As a past mental wellbeing ambassador, I know sometimes it feels more comfortable talking to a peer than staff so the wellbeing officer and I will work hard to ensure you all have a safe space to talk and express your feelings. I know Mimoza was in the process of getting headspace subscription free for both first and second years and I will continue to push for it.

I appreciate that undergrads and postgrads have unique experiences and I want to cater to both groups and Im open to hearing feedback from both. I am aware. I am looking forward to continuing where Nasr left off and ensuring a smooth transition of presidency.

Thank you for reading. I hope you my ideas has resonated with you so we can the KMMS experience pleasant for all.
