Clinical Skills Society

Most medical students aspire to be outstanding clinicians, or at the very least, pass their OSCE’s! The Clinical Skills Society organises peer-led, hands-on revision sessions where students from all year groups come together to practice their physical examination and history-taking skills in a non-judgemental, supportive environment. Join us to observe, act as a model patient, have a go at practicing your clinical skills, and (hopefully!) ace those OSCE’s!

Emergency Medicine Society

The emergency medicine society shares valuable learning resources relating to the speciality of Emergency Medicine. Lead by a former A&E nurse, EMSoc highlights upcoming events relating to emergency care as well as offering opportunties to attend insightful talks at KMMS or online by emergency care specialists and allied health professionals. For anyone interested in pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine, EMSoc provides a raw insight into the life of A&E physicians and students can gain understanding of the challenges as well as the endless opportunities the speciality has to offer.

General Practice Society

The GP Society at our medical school is a vibrant community dedicated to fostering interest, knowledge, and skills in general practice. Comprised of students passionate about primary care, our society offers a platform for learning, collaboration, and professional development. In addition to its educational and professional pursuits, the GP Society fosters a supportive and inclusive community where members can connect, share ideas, and build lasting relationships.

Health Inequalities Society

Health Inequalities Society highlights unfair differences in society which affects health. We aim to highlight and work towards breaking systemic barriers that disproportionally impact how people live, how long they live for and the care they have access to.

Humanitarian Medicine

We firmly believe that access to healthcare is an essential human right. We aim to create an environment which welcomes all those who share our dedication and enthusiasm to spread awareness, fundraise and discuss humanitarian crises, as well as hold regular talks and events. We also work closely with Global Brigades, a student-led charity working to provide better access to healthcare across the globe, where our members can volunteer in the clinics that our fundraising helps to fund.

LGBTQ+ Society

The KMMS LGBTQIA+ society is a brand new society designed to foster a welcoming community for those that identify with the LGBTQIA+ umbrella or our allies. We aim to create a safe environment for everyone to share their ideas and learn more about LGBTQIA+ experiences within healthcare. We hope to fill our calendar with socials, fundraising and key speakers. We also look forward to representing KMMS and its student body at this year’s Canterbury Pride.

Mature Student Network

KMMS Mature Student Network is a MedSoc sub-society, open to EVERYONE. We organise peer-led study support sessions and non-alcoholic/day-time fun socials.

Military Medicine Society

The KMMS Military Medicine Society is a society designed for those who have an interest in a career in the military (both regular and reserve) or those who want to learn more about medicine in austere environments.

Neurological Society

The Neuro-soc at Kent and Medway is a shared platform dedicated toward bringing together a community passionate about understanding the complexities of the brain and the nervous system. It offers opportunities for education and collaboration through impactful events regarding research, case studies, clinical skill and much more. Join Neuro-soc for networking with others interested to learn more about the brain and pursue a career in neurology or related fields.

Obs and Gynae Society

The KMMS ObGyn society is a community for like-minded students interested in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. As well as providing opportunities to learn about the specialty we aim to spread awareness and encourage discussion amongst student about sexual health and gynaecological health. We also support students in their studies through hosting interesting talks and peer-lead revision sessions. As a society we contribute to the local community through our period poverty campaign. O&G is a welcoming and creative space for all students regardless of experience and background- we look forward to seeing you soon!!

Cancer is becoming an increasingly prevalent disease, with 1 in 2 people being diagnosed with cancer according to Cancer Research UK. The KMMS Oncology Society seeks to raise awareness of the impact of cancer across the UK and the rest of the world. We aim to host a wide variety of events including fundraisers, career talks and more.

Plastic Surgery Society

At PRASS we understand that your exposure to the world of plastic surgery can be limited during our placement years. So we want to help demystify the process of applications and teach you how you can make a start today to make your application as competitive as they can possibly be. We will hold talks with consultant plastic surgeons about their experience to the top as well as registrars who will talk us through the training pathway as well as what a day in the life of a plastic surgeon can be like.

Surgical Society

Surgical Society encompasses all aspects of surgery and is proudly open to all KMMS students interested in surgery, whether they want to pursue a career in surgery or are just interested in learning more about the opportunities that surgery provides. We host a variety of events throughout the year with many special guests from different surgical specialties and provide as much information about what a career in surgery may entail. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible at our events!

Street Doctors Kent

We are a group of volunteers as part of the streetdoctors organisation - we help empower young people with the knowledge how to save lifes via CPR and how to stop a bleed. Started sept 2023 and hoping to grow with you all.
