Welcome from Sophie!

Greetings Canterbury Christ Church students! After the intense three week induction period consisting of numerous meetings, five days on a sabb residential in Wingham, and generally getting to grips with working life inside a Students’ Union, I am now starting to find my feet and settle into the office and my role as Vice President (Student Activities). Just over a month in, and I thought I’d write a brief blog post to introduce myself and update you on my journey so far.

As the Student Activities officer, I will be your go-to person for all things societies, raise and give (RaG) and student media (including the radio station CSR and the university magazine UNIfied). So if you’re passionate about something and want to set up a society, put on a fundraiser, or get involved with student media – don’t hesitate to come in and see me or drop me an email!

Already in my short time here, students have approached me to set up new societies and I’ve begun meeting with society presidents to get to know their individual needs and learn what their societies are all about. Additionally, after making action plans for my manifesto points I have started thinking of ways to promote inclusion in terms of activities for ALL students, whatever campus you are based at and also begun to work closely with members of our lovely team brainstorming initial plans for the first ever Student Activities Awards ceremony which is all very exciting!

The year ahead is full of exciting plans here at the SU so keep an eye out for more blog posts from myself and the other sabbs.
