MO-tivation

What I lack in facial hair, I make up with MO-tivation

So after all these years of writing essays and assignments for school, sixth form and University I haven’t been the most forthcoming with writing a blog so far. I have now built up the courage to try my hand and write something which I hope you will all read and enjoy!

My passion for sports is what made me want the role of President (Sport), formally VP (Sport), and sharing my enthusiasm for the Sport Federation at Christ Church. To say it has been an easy job is far from the story, however I have never experienced such reward for making people happy and reaching my personal standards. I have a great team in the Union - the staff has welcomed me in like family and are always on hand when I need them!

I have already been fortunate enough to have lots of ‘Wynns’ ticking off lots of my manifesto points already! I have been most proud of the 33% off gym membership for our sport team members and the CARDY kit sponsorship that I managed to get an agreement on. I have made absolutely sure I communicate well with the committees, I love a good email! People now moan that they’re flooded with emails but it helps run everything so much more smoothly.

Freshers’ fortnight was one of the most fun, hectic and exhausting two weeks I have ever experienced. As a concierge in a 5 star hotel for 4 years, the move in days were going to be a complete walk in the park. Two sweaty t-shirts and several moans later, humble pie was on the menu!

It was great none the less to be part of a great Welcome Crew team and meet so many enthusiastic freshers! The highlight of the 2 weeks had to be Freshers’ Fayre, the turnout was sensational and the sport teams did an amazing job in recruiting so many new faces. We encouraged teams to think outside of the box with their stalls and this meant we had boxing & Ju-jitsu showcases and even a little Shetland pony on the day!

Since Freshers’ I have worked tirelessly to ensure all of the teams are happy and everything is organised, with the help of Tona in the SU offices. It’s not glamorous work to say the least, but it has to be done and has meant I have worked hours I never thought I was capable of. What makes all worthwhile is supporting as many of my teams as possible from the touchline each week. Nothing gives me more satisfaction than seeing the men and women giving everything they’ve got and ending the games celebrating! More importantly, all the victories over Kent already!!

Varsity is quickly coming around and it is always great to have bragging rights over Nina and Team Kent in our meetings to organise the 2015 event.

Final Whistle at 10pm in the Lounge has proved really popular and it’s great to have all the teams in there celebrating all the weeks results!

I have tried to be as short and informative as possible and would like to round off this rather long blog talking about one of my favourite charities, the Movember Foundation. Although I still struggle to grow facial hair at the ripe old age of 22, this is my 3rd year of raising awareness for men’s health. Having known many friends/family who have passed away or have suffered from such illnesses, I make it a priority to campaign on behalf of the charity. I encourage everyone, not just the sport community to do their part and help raise money!

There are many ways to get involved whether you are male or female, so have a think whilst it is not too late! I am hosting a Movember closing party in the Students Union on Wednesday 26th November starting at 7pm, it would be great to get as many people as possible in for it.
