Storm Jeffery

My name is Storm Jeffery, a third-year music technology student, I am running for President (Engagement and Sports) 2022/23.

I am currently president of pole fitness and am loving my year. I have been part of pole fitness for three years and have also tried my hand in other teams such as climbing. I've been involved in many competitions over the years and have even organized my own online pole competition over lockdown. I'm used to taking on large projects to help improve my society, I dedicate my off days to help my team and support other teams where I can.

Maddie has done such a terrific job in her 2 years as president and I would love to be able to further the projects she has implemented for the uni. I feel like I can really make a difference as the president of sport and engagement. Here are just a few of my own projects and ideas that I would like to work on in the new year.

Make sports more accessible for all

  • Days where those with disabilities can come and try out new sports with the support of team christ church.

  • Finance days offering free tasters sessions in the gym and other classes.

  • Disability gym and classes led by an instructor (similar to the “This Girl Can” sessions.)

Creating a christ church family

  • Encouraging societies to have session swaps and open sessions where any other team can join, this includes society and sport societies.

  • Sport society sports day where teams can compete with each other in fun activities.

  • Team meetings twice a year, one at the start to ensure teams are comfortable in their new roles and one around christmas to make sure everything is running smoothly.

  • A dedicated time for an open chat session where teams can come in and talk about things that could be improved within the Student Union as well as surveys.

  • In Depth training for each role through videos and powerpoints.

  • Encourage sport teams to hold their own sporting competitions and support them to do this.

 Student Wellbeing

  • The continuation of thursday cool down sessions

  • More diversity training

  • Wellbeing officer meetups

  • Looking at new ways to make walking at night safer

After 2-years of being on the pole committee I realize how extremely important it is to work with others. There have been some great programs this year that have really made a difference to so many students that I would love to be able to carry on into the new year such as, This Girl Can, Expect Respect and Tuesday Chill.

I am very passionate about improving students' experience and I believe this role will allow me to further your student experience. I'm ready to work hard and continue to make changes for the better.

Thankyou for taking the time to read through my manifesto, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or just want to talk.
