Final Blog: President Out

I can proudly say that I have had a very successful year here at Christ Church Students’ Union!

Before I list all of the things that I've done and give you a short update on the maniesto that YOU elected me for, I want to say thank you to few people. First I want to say thank you to the best sabs team that I can wish for Nicola Ward, Sophie Dudley and Emily Barron (you girls are truly amazing) and to our unbelievable Union Staff team, who have supported me in every step of my journey and have never stopped pushing me to do more.
I also want to say thank you to all students in CCCU you were absolutely amazing without your contribution and engagement the Union is nothing!!!

MANIFESTO UPDATE - This is what I have achieved since you elected me in October:
1. With the help of trans students secured Gender Neutral toilets in all new buildings and three of the old buildings on the Canterbury campus (all of them single cubicles with sinks, so they can be used by Muslim women as well).
2. Every single GMS student will have a live online timetable on CLIC.
3. Saved student parking on campus and pushed the university to include transport between the three campuses on their 3-year Travel Plan.
4. All supermarkets and shops in Canterbury accept International EU ID cards.
5. StudentsNotSuspects – We ran an awareness campaign, passed a motion on union council and opposed Prevent right up to Governing Body level.
6. We have more than 12 students sitting on high university boards (higher than ever).
7. I was part of organising the first ever Employability Week in May, with the Union and the University.
8. We gave away more than 1000 fruit and veg packs to students at Union on Tour, to raise awareness about healthy lifestyle, hidden costs and student poverty.
9. As part of our Housing Campaign we organised a protest against SLA and dodgy landlords, and started negotiating the prices of the student accommodation with the university (so far we managed to bring all fines down by 25%).
10. We lobbied the university catering outlets to label all of their food with allergens and to be more transparent about the pricing and the ingredients that they use.
11. We have budgeted for an SU app for next year (SO YEAH, WE ARE A STEP CLOSER TO HAVING AN SU APP NEXT YEAR!!!)
12. Since January, the sabbs have collected more than 850 Challenge US cards from all three campuses.
13. We started conversations with the university to create a social learning space on campus.
14. Had a big contribution to the “Student Impact Review”, defending the student’s right to be seen as equal members of the community.

I want to say special thank you to few more people.
- Shelly Asquith, Mostafa Rajaai and Sorana Vieru thank you for being the most amazing people and that you have supported me through my entire journey, and always answer my questions (no matter how stupid they were)
- Liam Jared Hannan and Tom Nairn for being the best friends and support that I can wish for.
- Kieran Oliver and Matthew Lennox for standing me being their housemate, not seeing me with days and listen to all of the SU things that I constantly talk about
And of course the amazing Emily Barron – the person who made my sabb year the best year of my life!!!

Also massive thank you to NUS and to all of the people who supported me and worked with me tis year.
