Looking to try something new this year? C4 Womens Rugby Club are looking for new players to join our team, and no experience is needed! Joining a sports team will undoubtedly improve your university experience, whether that is with us at women’s rugby or with another team, we strongly encourage you to do so!
We are Canterbury Christ Church Women’s Rugby! Here is a little about ourselves... We are a spontaneous group of girls who have grown to love and play rugby, alongside fiercly competing on a Wednesday against other universities across the South East region. We have recently been promoted into BUCS South Eastern Tier 1 League, which we achieved after remaining unbeaten and coming top of our league in the 2023/2024 season. Alongside this we battled our way through the South Eastern Conference Cup all the way to the finals and accomplished another massive win! And to conclude our amazing season we became victorious at our annual varsity match, crowning ourselves as the treble winners!
So why should you join us? Why not! We truly are like home away from home, we look after each and every person that comes through our club and becomes part of our crazy rugby family. So if you fancy joining or trying out something new, then go right ahead and get in touch! And not to panic, not only do we participate in Union rugby, but we also do touch rugby; so if you are feeling slightly nervous about joining this will surely prepare you and ease you into an incredible sport. Joining a sports team undoubtedly improves your university experience, so why not make it rugby!!
Every Wednesday, following on from our games, we will host a Social which will adhere to a fun theme every week. This is a great way to bond with the team, and where you will inevitably make amazing memories and meet your friends for life. This will include a visit to the CCSU Lounge to support the efforts of our other teams and find out who has won 'Player of the Week' and 'Team of the Week'!
Every year in the month of March, CCCU battles against the University of Kent over the course of a week fueled with sports. Every single sports team is invited to take part in this week-long event recognised by many as ‘Varsity’! Traditionally rugby will kick-start Varsity week off, or alternatively we will finish it. We as C4 womens rugby have been successful against UKC in the past, including the passing year of 2024.
This year at our annual Sports Federation Awards for the 2023/24 season, we won 'Team of the Year' and were additionally awarded the Williams Award. Our amazing Vice Captain (now captain for the upcoming season) Hannah Sandeman recieved 'Sports Person of the Year', followed by our amazing President (now treasurer) Ella Jenkins who was presented with the Mark Burgess award and Sports Scholar Award.
