As the current President and Founder of the Debating Society, I am incredibly proud of what we have built from scratch and excited for the future! With my team we plan to make this society genuinely useful for both academic development and real-life skills for everyone. I created this society as an open forum where anyone can engage with topics beyond their degree! It’s completely free because you already pay enough to be here (plus freedom of speech should be free). My future plans are; • Mock trial competitions (internal and potentially external) •Academic trip to Parliament • Workshops on public speaking and critical thinking • Research skills sessions (making the most of your university access) • Newspaper debates on current events • Maintaining a low pressure, fun environment to make friends and network. Why me? I have personal experience in mooting, mock trials and mediation. I am committed to making everyone feel welcome regardless of experience (trust me I’m friendly I promise!) There will always be a role for you whether it is presenting, organising or just showing up while building your CV doing something you enjoy! So, vote me for president!
