Widening Participation Officer

I’m Elsa, a current first‑year KMMS student. I come from an underrepresented North-East state schooI and was my school years only medicine applicant. I had to navigate the entire process with almost no support, which showed me how confusing, isolating, and unfair the journey can feel when you don’t have the same opportunities as others. Since then, I’ve spent time meticulously researching the application process inside out, and helped other state‑school students apply to medicine. There are so many barriers in applying to medicine and the process remains unfair, with students from disadvantaged communities and underrepresented backgrounds not receiving the opportunities, help and support they deserve. If elected, I will: • Use my first‑hand experience to make KMMS more accessible for students from all backgrounds • Increase applications from disadvantaged groups, underrepresented ethnicities, and low‑progression regions • Work with KMMS to ensure admissions are fair, transparent, and supportive • Empower students who feel unsure or overlooked to see medicine as a real, achievable path I am extremely committed to and passionate about increasing medical applicants from disadvantaged and underrepresented backgrounds, and would love to help KMMS ensure ALL students receive the support and opportunites they deserve.
