Molly kicked off November with the annual Cycling Varsity in aid of ‘Movember’. CCCU Students go head to head with UKC to see how many miles they can rack up whilst raising awareness for men’s mental health. We didn't win, but we got the message out there - and many students rocked a stache throughout the month! Molly also held the famous (and dreaded) ‘I’m a Social Sec … Get Me Out of Here’ event at the Lounge! This involved all sport social secs completing an array of challenges for nothing but bragging rights. Congratulations again to our winners, Men’s Rugby.
Joe held his Bonfire Night event which was a huge success. It took a lot of work on his end but the student feedback made it all worth it! From free hot chocolate, student performances and of course the fire pits, it was a great evening and an excellent opportunity for new students to mingle. Christ Church Sport came along to run some well-being activities and at the SU we brought along some craft supplies!
The rest of November flew by. We held an employability breakfast over in Medway where the careers team supported students with their next steps. We worked with the Academy for Sustainable Futures on their COP30 event, hosting a sustainability themed Give it a Go where students made pinecone bird feeders. Then, of course, we must mention the VC’s Q&A where students got to ask the Vice Chancellor whatever was on their mind. We are planning something similar for the incoming VC so keep an eye out!
Onto December where Joe hosted another large scale event - the CCSU Christmas Market! Student Businesses sold their own creations, the Musical Theatre Society serenaded us (thanks guys!) and we dressed up in extremely serious costumes! It was a fun filled day, creating that community feel on campus - apparently there was even some snow!
One of our Student Community Organisers, Kaitlyn, held a Femicide awareness campaign, drawing attention to these serious issues and signposting to support. It was very well done and had a wide reach! It was great working with Kaitlyn and we are excited to help with her plans for this semester.
As part of the employability and upskilling campaign, Emma and Molly held their ‘Log Your Hours Pizza Party’. This was a space specifically for our students to come along, log their volunteering hours, speak to our amazing careers team and of course, enjoy some pizza. The SU team also trained up all of Course reps and Emma is very excited to work with them all in the new year!
Semester 1 was absolutely incredible and the SU Presidents were feeling ready to take on semester 2… after the Christmas break.
