Emma and Joe started the year with a trip across Europe visiting fifteen universities in five days. It was a full week and a lot of time spent on a bus, but the inspiration we gathered was amazing! It was really cool to see how much autonomy students have in other countries and how much they are trusted with. From an entirely student lead bar to a Freshers Week committee of students that work full time for a full year (temporarily pausing their studies), it is very different to how things work over here! There were, however, still lots of ideas that can be applied to the way we run CCSU!

Molly and Emma have been planning for upcoming national awareness days! In line with our volunteering/employability campaign, we want to celebrate Student Volunteering Day! Our community organisers also have a lot planned for February and March so keep an eye out for upcoming events! Molly has been continuing her ‘Don’t Burn Out’ campaign, handing out free fruit and raising awareness around the importance of looking after your well-being!

January means new arrivals, so we hosted a sport and society drop in! Our student groups set up in the SU to showcase their clubs and recruit new students! It is never too late to join a sport or society, make sure to get involved! On the topic of sports, we unveiled the new Stoddy Mascot! He got stuck in the lift but he was still very well received - we cannot wait to see him cheering people on from the sidelines.

Joe held his first placement support breakfast on the Canterbury campus. This is a great way to chat to students about any issues with their placements and knew it would be well received based on the previous success over on the Medway campus! Speaking of Medway, Emma’s bus campaign is STILL happening. Decisions such as this have to go through many different groups of people which unfortunately takes a long time! We are waiting. We’ll probably wait some more. But, we should have some answers by March!
