January/February Update
The shuttle bus case is now out of Emma's hands. She is waiting on a figure from Kent to take to the CCCU estates team. CCCU are onboard and interested to speak to Kent in order to establish this partnership. It is (unfortunately) a waiting game.
We have given the bird houses to the Academy of Sustainable Futures! They are up in the greenhouse area behind the Johnson building. You can see them if you attend the weekly potter and prune sessions!
Our community organiser, Flic, held an MP letter writing session where students could write to their local MPs on old cardboard. This allowed students to reach out to the people in charge whilst being sustainable. We also held a litter pick where we worked with a group of students to clean up campus! Litter picks are surprisingly fun (and lowkey competitive) so make sure to get involved with our next one.
March Update
CCSU has won a bronze accreditation from the Wilder Kent awards! This factored in all of our work from across 2025. However, Emma and Imogen only found out about this process in the middle of November, so we are extremely proud to have received an award. We are excited to see if we can move up the ranks next year now that we have more time to meet the criteria!!
We now have a permanent book swap shelf in the SU! Flic held a book swap event and we were inundated with donations. We used this event to promote sustainable (and cheap) ways to get your hands on cheap books. Our book swap shelf is a great way to recycle your old reads and find something else that you love!
We also had our Annual Members Meeting where our sustainability work was raised. We bring these actions up in our partnership meetings with the University, but it was exciting to share this in an official space with students. We have a busy month planned as we look towards our GISU application and a collaborative sustainability event with GSU and KSU on the Medway campus- we will keep you all updated.
