We’re on the bus - Medway campaign success!

From 26th September, CCCU students and staff can now travel for free on the shuttle bus between the University of Kent’s Canterbury Campus and the Medway Campus.

This change was driven by the student voice. Following a student petition, Emma, President (Academic Life), developed a business case and took it to senior management at both CCCU and University of Kent to make the case for CCCU students to access the service.

The two universities had been discussing access to the shuttle for more than 20 years, but thanks to the persistence of students and the work of Christ Church Students’ Union, CCCU can now use the service for free.

Thank you to everyone who supported the campaign and waited patiently while the details were worked through. It’s a great example of what can happen when students speak up and make their voices heard!

How it works:
Take the Uni 1, Uni 2, 401 or 400 bus (Stagecoach bus fee not covered by CCCU) from town centre or walk to the University of Kent’s Canterbury campus and catch the shuttle bus for free to the Medway campus.

It starts early in the morning and runs until midnight, so students can get the most out of both CCCU campuses. Make sure to book a spot in advance!

  1. Download the Zeelo app (iOS or Android) or head to zeelo.co on a desktop.
  2. Press ‘Log in’ to start creating your account.
  3. Only use ‘Continue with Email'
  4. Fill in your details using your University email address only, otherwise you will not be able to find the service (@canterbury.ac.uk only)

What’s next for the Shuttle Bus?

Emma’s work on improving travel between Canterbury and Medway doesn’t stop here! The next step is to explore whether the shuttle bus could also stop in Canterbury city centre, making it even more accessible for CCCU students and staff.

To help make this happen, we need you to use the bus and share your feedback!

Let Emma know how you’re finding the service, whether it’s made your life easier, or simply if you think it’s a great addition for students and staff.

The more CCCU students and staff use the shuttle and share positive feedback, the more evidence we have to help shape the service around our needs and make the case for further improvements.

Happy travels! Beep beep!
