Welcome to the 26/27 academic year everyone! We are very excited to have you all back on campus and have thoroughly enjoyed the start to the new year. Over the summer, Tilly started as President (Student Life), joining Emma and Joe to plan for the year ahead. Here is what we got up to in September…
Tilly hit the ground running with her ‘Participation’ campaign, highlighting the Multi-Use Games Area (aka the ‘MUGA’ or ‘big blue court in the middle of campus) to students and locating all the free equipment that you can access. This has all been tracked down to the Verena Holmes Security desk, so pop in and grab some equipment so you can pick up and play!!
The majority of September was obviously dedicated to Welcome Week - the week packed full of events to welcome new and returning students back to campus. Across the Canterbury and Medway campus we had: retro games, mini golf, ninja warrior, alpacas, massages, candy floss, popcorn, loads of freebies, a 10 foot inflatable wiggly man and even more. Thank you to all that came along to say hello, especially the thousands of you that came along to our Welcome Fair. It was great to see everyone in one place, meeting new people and talking to student groups. We hope you all enjoyed yourselves!
We ended Welcome Week with the Weekend of Sport. This is where all the sports clubs run free taster sessions for new students to come along and try out. It was a buzzing weekend and we are so excited to see the new teams play in the BUCs season, starting in October.
The most important part of Welcome Week, however, was Joe’s BIG QUIZ. 10 rounds. More questions that you signed up for. Endless fun. There was a great turn out and we are looking forward to our Halloween Quiz in October. Joe eats, sleeps and breathes quizzes, so if you have any rounds/themes that you would like to see, let us know!
Our Community Organiser, Kaitlyn, then held events for Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance (SHAG) Week. We welcomed a sexual health nurse to campus and colleagues from DOINK to promote safe sexual health and open conversations. Kailtlyn also organised a “Stay in Synch” event for students to come together. We decorated cupcakes, made badges and gave out lots of freebies. Thank you Kaitlyn for a great week. If you would like to run your own campaign or events, sign up to become a Community Organiser!
Looking ahead to next month…
The Medway Shuttle Bus will be up and running! Our Sports and Societies Executive Committees would have had their first meeting to plan for the year AND THE FIRST BUCS WEDNESDAY!!! #C4
