As we are student led you decide who you want to represent students each academic year.
This is done through an election process to represent our democratic values at the Student Union where students vote for who they believe will be the most suitable Student Leader. This voting process is done via Single Transferable Vote.
The elections happen once a year and decide who will lead Christ Church Students’ Union acting as a Student Leader. The Student Leader role is a full time paid position contracted for a year.
The Student Leaders represent students at the University and lead on key campaigns, amplify student voice and work to improve the student experience.
All registered Christ Church Students who are members of the Students’ Union are eligible to vote. All students at Canterbury Christ Church are automatically members of the Student Union unless you choose to opt out.
To apply to be a Student Leader you need to fill out the Student Leader Application Form and attend a candidate briefing. You will then have the opportunity to campaign to get as many votes as you can!
Please make sure to email a photo of yourself to elections@ccsu.co.uk once you have submitted your application. This will be used to advertise the elections on our social media.
The experience you need to be an Student Leader is being a student! The elections are about your ideas, passions and what you think would improve the student experience. Full training and support is provided to Student Leaders once they are in post.
Any Christ Church student who meets the eligibility criteria can stand this includes:
International Students and Postgrad students are eligible to run as well!
No, you will not be able to be an Officer whilst studying your degree as the role is a full time paid job.
If you are elected midway through your degree then you can take a year off studies and resume after your Officer Term ends.
We offer guidance on manifesto writing, campaigning and a breakdown of the election process at our Candidate Briefing.
You are also welcome to email elections@ccsu.co.uk with any questions or queries you may have. We are always happy to chat!
To ensure our elections are fair there are Election Rules.
These rules outline acceptable and expected behaviour especially around campaigning and suitable behaviour surrounding collecting votes.
It is important that you understand the election rules as failure to abide by these can result in penalties.
