What is The Society Development Fund?

The Society Development Fund is a supplemental pot of money which Societies can apply for to help with specific events, equipment costs or campaigns that will benefit their members and the longevity of the society.

The contents of the applications, whether an event or a project or new equipment, must demonstrate impact and long-term benefits for Canterbury Christ Church University student members. This could be through building student communities, improving the student experience or creating inclusive and accessible environments.

Student Group committee members may apply for up to £250 towards the costs of initiatives that support the growth and development of their group. For exceptional applications we can also look to fund amounts over £250.

What can we fund?

  • Activities or events.
  • Catering costs, up to £50 per event.
  • Speaker, presenter, or training costs.
  • Group travel costs.
  • Events that benefit the society and all its members.
  • Equipment.

What we won't fund:

  • Activities or events led by a group which is not affiliated with the SU.
  • Alcohol – allowed at events but not funded by the Union.
  • Activities which are against the Union's principles and values.
  • Events that benefit an individual only or a small group of individuals.
  • Contributions towards direct degree and course costs.
  • Retrospective funding for past events and projects.
  • Events that directly breach contractual agreements set out by the business team.
  • Fundraising events – as we are a charity ourselves, we cannot use our funds to support raising money for other charities.
  • Clothing.
