Let's do the Time Walk Again!

Sandwich Guildhall Museum, situated in the heart of the town, tells the rich and varied story of Sandwich through the ages, from its early beginnings to the present day. Located in the 16th Century Guildhall the museum houses treasures including the 1300 A.D Sandwich Magna Carta and Charter of the Forest as well as artefacts dating back to the Mesolithic period.

As a volunteer for the National Lottery Heritage Fund Time Walk project, you will be focussing on carrying out inventory of Sandwich Guildhall Museum’s postcard and carte-de-visite collection. These collections depict the streets and buildings of Sandwich from the late 1800s through to recent times, showing how the town has changed. Some of the postcards also include addresses from people in the town. Inventory is vital work for the management of a museum collection and offers the chance to explore and handle the items. Inventory involves inputting details and descriptions about the postcards. The role will also involve learning how to digitise the postcard collection and make the images and research available online via a website.
