Holiday Club Volunteers

We run 4 days of Holiday Club in the October and February half terms, as well as the Summer holidays. They are aimed at children from 4-12 years old with Down's Syndrome and consist of a combination of morning speech and language activities, followed by afternoon sports activities. Speech elements are run by Symbol Connect UK Ltd therapists with 21 Together staff available to support, providing the children and young people with a more intensive environment to work on speech, social skills, friendships, appropriate behaviour and social interaction. Sports afternoons are run by local sports coaches alongside 21 Together staff.

We are looking for volunteers to help our staff deliver these sessions. The position will require you to interact closely with young people with Down’s syndrome, teaching staff, speech therapists and sports coaches.

This is a very unique experience, and would be excellent for anyone interested in (or currently doing) speech and language therapy, education, SEN degrees or just those who consider themselves to be a child-friendly, people-person who want to make a real difference!

Time commitment: 

Each Club runs consecutively for four days from 9:30-3:30. We would also welcome volunteers who were only able to attend the morning session until around 1pm, or those who might not be able to commit to all four days.

It is vital that when you are registering as a volunteer you are clear on your availability.

The next dates we are looking for Holiday Club volunteers for are: 

• Tuesday 27th October - Friday 30th October (inclusive)

  Location: Maidstone Community Support Centre, ME14 1HH

Remuneration 

The role of a volunteer is a voluntary position and is therefore not remunerated. However, reasonable expenses for travel, training and prior approved expenses incurred in carrying out duties may be claimed (the amount claimed may be capped at our discretion).

Location 

Varies around Kent at each half term, but this Holiday Club is at Maidstone Community Support Centre, ME14 1HH.

Skills required

This position would suit someone looking for a committed volunteering role, particularly those who have an interest in speech and language or teaching.

• Confident communication skills with a range of ages and learning abilities

• Ability to engage in the delivery of activities according to guidance from the Speech and Language therapist, specialist teacher and group lead.

• Innovative with strong interpersonal skills and good team player.

• Ability to demonstrate discretion and to handle confidential information sensitively.
