About 

The Library Champion role offers students an opportunity to volunteer with the Library Services team to develop existing and new services, whilst enriching their learning experience and enhancing their future employability. 

As a volunteer you will:

  • support the reviewing and development of services. 
  • engage students in participatory design and ensure that they can contribute to the shaping of our services.
  • increase the number of channels to capture feedback and comments on satisfaction with services and support.
  • work with students as partners and ambassadors to our services.  
  • contribute to the University agenda on retention by creating opportunities for students to increase their level of engagement, belonging and confidence.
  • support the promotion of new and existing services, facilities, and print and digital resources provided by Student Life and Library Services.
  • support a range or events held by the Student Life and Library Services department. 

Activating student voice by ensuring students are co-creators of their learning experience is a core commitment of the University’s 2030 vision.

  • Participants will receive a Reference for their work with our department.
  • The tasks at hand will provide opportunities to enhance the CV with multiple transferable skills (interpersonal and communication skills, research skills - by carrying out as User eXperience fieldwork and other qualitative research methods and ideation techniques, analytical skills - by being involved in analysing results from feedback activities),as well providing the chance to gain work experience in a Library setting.   

University community engagement 

  • This will be an opportunity for students to feel empowered to make a difference and give them a sense of community.
  • They will learn more about services offered by Student Life and Library Services as well as by the University departments
  • Activities will encourage collation and engagement with fellow students will be encouraged. This will help students develop meaningful relationship with their peers.   

Commitment 

Participants will be required to be involved in up to 2 hours per week of voluntary work. The training opportunities are open to all and it is up to individuals as to what they wish to participate in. 

The work will be via various methods: 

  • Face to face
  • Email
  • Online surveys 
  • Blog writing
  • Social media asset production for Instagram and Facebook.
