Making a complaint to the University

If you have a concern or issue, the University encourages you to try and resolve it informally first. If that doesn’t work, you can submit a formal complaint.

Step 1: Try to Resolve the Issue Informally

Start by having a calm, constructive conversation with the person involved. You can also speak with:

  • Your Course Director
  • Your Personal Academic Tutor
  • Your Student Rep, who can raise your concern at:
    • A Student Staff Liaison Meeting
    • A Student Voice Forum
    • Or directly with the Course Director

If the issue remains unresolved, you can raise it in writing with the Head of School.

Step 2: Submit a Formal Complaint

If informal steps don’t lead to a resolution, you can make a formal complaint to the University.

To do this:

  • Submit a Formal Complaint online using the Complaints Form.
  • Include any supporting evidence
  • Submit your complaint within two months of the issue occurring

Reporting a student or staff member's behaviour

If your concern relates to inappropriate behaviour from a student or staff member, you can use the University’s Report + Support tool.
