Recently the Students’ Union Conducted a Travel Survey designed to get your opinions on travel to University for Study (and Placement if applicable) and also travel whilst engaging in Union Activity.
Our aim was to gather data so that we can lobby the University, taxi companies and bus providers to gain discounts, flat rate fees, additional routes and bespoke transport where you most need it.
Winners Announced
As an incentive, one lucky respondent was chosen at random to win a cash prize of £100 and two runners up a cash prize of £25 each just for taking part!
The winners were CiiCii Matu from Canterbury, and Jasmin Turner and Francisca Isikwei from Medway - CONGRATULATIONS!
We would like to thank everybody for taking part, we had 402 responses!
What did the survey say?
225 responses were relating to placement and we have sent those over to the Faculties of Health / Education to be considered locally.
The highlights of the survey include stats like:
-
56% of students in Broadstairs walk to uni and 33% drive to a CCCU Car Park
-
61% of students in Canterbury walk to uni and 11% drive to the Park and Ride
-
45% of students in Medway drive to a CCCU Car park while only 24% walk to uni
There were also lots of great suggestions from students including:
“Discounts on bikes”, “a recommended taxi company for students at Broadstairs”, “inter-campus buses” and “a University bus to and from the train station”
We would like to thank you all for your contributions and we look forward to using your voice to further lobby for change both on campus and in the local areas.
What discounts can I get?
In the meantime there are lots of offers and discounts currently available for CCCU students:
PARKING ON CAMPUS
Canterbury
Students wishing to park at the Canterbury Campus can make use of the Pay and Display, Black car park (accessed via gate 6). Those wishing to do so require a student Smart Card for access and must pay £3.00 per day (or part thereof).
Broadstairs, Medway and Hall Place
Student parking is only available at the Broadstairs and Medway campuses and for those students studying at Hall Place. In order to park on location, you will need to apply for a parking permit.
Students may apply for a parking permit to park at Salomons Centre, Broadstairs, Medway and Hall Place between 9.00am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday. Full-time students pay a fee of £52.50, part-time students £26.25. Student parking is not permitted at any other University site except where students have a registered or temporary disability which entitles them to apply for a permit. These permits are issued at the discretion of Student Support, Health and Wellbeing and will not be subject to a fee.
Students spending 50% of their course time on placement only have to pay the part-time student fee. Both the application for and the issuing of student car parking permits is managed locally at Campus level. Payments are by credit or debit card using the online payment facility.
OFF-CAMPUS PARKING
Canterbury
The Uni offers discounts to students parking at off-site locations around the University Canterbury Campus:
Polo Farm Minibus Service
A free 5 minute park and ride service for students is available at Polo Farm Sports Club Canterbury (CT3 4AF). A 16 seat shuttle bus will be in operation to take students to the Old Sessions House and for the return journey Polo Farm in the evening. A free shuttle bus is available - view the timetable.
Park and Ride Card
Canterbury City Council operates a Park and Ride Scheme at the Wincheap, Sturry Road and New Dover Road Park & Ride car parks. The University offers a Park and Ride card giving £60 worth of credit for just £38. The standard daily parking charge is £3.00, but with the discounted card this is reduced to £1.90 per day. This includes return coach travel into Canterbury for the driver and up to six passengers of the same vehicle.
