A new event for the society this year, we've decided that it was important to provide a safe place for trans, gender fluid, non-binary and intersex identifying students (if you are on the gender spectrum and were not mentioned here, apologies, this also includes you).
We aim to provide somewhere safe on campus for trans students to relax and be themselves. The sessions, for the most part, will be run by society president, Carmel (she/they/them). Students can talk about issues surrounding their gender, the impact of social media and politics, family, transitioning, etc. We hope to have sufficient information available to members on these topics and how to seek support. If students are interested, we would be happy to reach out and ask for potential guests to help provide guidance. Basically, we want to make the most out of time in these sessions and benefit trans students in positive ways, however, if students just want to chill, snack and hang out, they are welcome to do so.
The only rules we have is that anyone attending these sessions are trans identifying, on the gender spectrum or questioning. No transphobia, racism, misogyny, fatphobia, homophobia (of any kind), xenophobia, or inappropriate behaviour will be tolerated. We truly wish for this to be a positive and engaging space, so, people must respect each other for this to be possible.
That aside, I cannot wait to welcome those of you who will attend and I hope you gain some fulfilment from these sessions. If you need a support buddy, please message us on the contact information provided on the poster and we will do our best to help you.
