A bit about us:
The Lounge Bar & Kitchen is Canterbury Christ Church University’s ‘student safe space’. Located at St. Georges Centre, we are just a stones throw from the bustling city centre.
We are operated by the University and our main priority is the safety and wellbeing of all our students. The Lounge offers students a place of their own to relax and also host their own events.
The Lounge provides students a place to relax and chill out during down time, a space to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city (and forget your studies and deadlines).
Got time with friends between lectures? Find activities like:
- pool
- darts
- ping pong
- games consoles
There's lots to do to pass the time. Quick game of eight ball? Throw some arrows at our dart board or how about FIFA on the big screen? We got you! Want to bring your own game, just ask for our controllers.
Want to try something new? A raft of student led activities such as food fayres and student wellbeing activities.
Come the evening, depending on the night, events set the tempo at the Lounge. On our busier nights, vibrancy and energy hits The Lounge. Themed events take the limelight, whilst we also see singular and monthly events take the stage.
Weekly Student Union led events give our students the reason to call this place home!
Monday - The Big Quiz, our entertaining quiz night. Fun and frolics as our team host a quiz night not like any other. Each week is a different theme, and what will they have you doing in the interactive round?
Wednesday - Final Whistle celebrates the Christ Church sporting achievements of the day’s BUCS matches.
Thursday - Society Takeover really does what it says - Christ Church Societies hosting an evening themed to their own choosing. These nights are designed to bring together students and societies from across the University to join and celebrate in the diversity that is our student body.
Friday - The Live Lounge brings music to The Lounge on Friday nights - featuring up and coming talent with local agency Below the Radar (known for shows at Penny Theatre and Lady Luck), alongside our own CCCU music community. All shows are completely free to attend!
We support our CCCU LGBTQIA+ community and the student LGBT society, with The Lounge a space everyone feels welcome, respected and comfortable with being who they are. Frequently seeing LGBT+ events lead by the Society and The Lounge. Offering a positive place, where inclusion is celebrated.
We work collaboratively with both internal and external stakeholders to advocate for student safety in the night-time economy. We work closely with the Student Union to ensure that we are taking a collaborative approach to tackle issues that are important to students and work together to provide students with a safe and secure environment.
The venue is Best Bar None accredited. The scheme measures the venue on standards in relation to crime and disorder prevention, public nuisance, staff training, customer safety and welfare, their approach to responsible selling and how they manage at risk or vulnerable customers.
The Best Bar None is an accreditation scheme that has been introduced by Kent Police, Canterbury City Council and Canterbury BID, following a nationwide model approved by the Home Office. The voluntary scheme sees pubs, clubs and bars work with police and other agencies to encourage safety in the night-time economy.
