Need a break from lectures or the city buzz? The Lounge Bar & Kitchen, right here at St. George's Centre, is your dedicated student safe space, run by the University with your wellbeing as our top priority.
Just a short walk from the city centre, The Lounge offers a welcoming place to unwind, catch up with friends, and even host your own events. Think of it as your go-to spot to relax, recharge, and maybe even forget about those deadlines for a little while!
Got time with friends between lectures? Find a space to play:

Need a break and some fun? Challenge your mates to a game of pool, darts, or FIFA on our big screen. We've got you! Bringing your own games? Just ask for our controllers.
Want to try something new? A raft of student led activities such as food fayres and student wellbeing activities.
Come the evening, depending on the night, events set the tempo at the Lounge. On our busier nights, vibrancy and energy hits The Lounge. Themed events take the limelight, whilst we also see singular and monthly events take the stage.
Come for the events, stay for the community! Our weekly Student Union gatherings give students every reason to feel at home.
Wednesday: Celebrate Our Sporting Heroes at Final Whistle - Come down on Wednesdays to cheer on Christ Church's sporting successes in the BUCS leagues. Be part of the winning atmosphere!
Thursday: Discover Something New at Society Takeover - Thursdays are your chance to experience the incredible range of Christ Church societies! Each week, a different society hosts a themed evening, offering a fun and unique way to connect with other students and explore new interests.
Friday: Your FREE Live Music Night at The Live Lounge - Looking for a great night out without breaking the bank? Every Friday, The Lounge comes alive with fantastic live music from up-and-coming artists (thanks to our friends at Below the Radar) and talented musicians from our own University. It's all free, so come and enjoy the tunes!
The Lounge is a proud supporter of our CCCU LGBTQIA+ community and the student and staff led Society. We're committed to creating a space where everyone feels welcome, respected, and comfortable being themselves. You'll often see vibrant LGBT+ events hosted by the Society and The Lounge – a positive place where inclusion is celebrated.
Creating a safe night-time together. We work closely with your Student Union and other partners to advocate for student safety and build a secure environment that reflects your needs and concerns.
We're proud to be a Best Bar None accredited venue! This award is a partnership between us, Kent Police, Canterbury City Council, and Canterbury BID, all working together to make Canterbury's nightlife safer. For you, it means The Lounge has been recognized for its high standards in everything from security to staff training, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment where you can relax and enjoy yourself. The voluntary scheme sees pubs, clubs and bars work with police and other agencies to encourage safety in the night-time economy.
