Temporary Learning Agreement

What is a temporary learning agreement (TLA)?

Once the Extenuating Circumstances Requests have been exhausted, you can initiate a conversation with your Personal Academic Tutor to get support. These are used when circumstances last longer than 14 days. Students must meet the eligibility criteria - found here.

What support can be provided?

These plans can include support ranging from:

  • Extensions for assessments

  • New arrangements for assessments

  • Reassessment support

These must be completed in time for the final sign-off board of examiners in a year, enabling you to progress or complete your degree within the original timeframe.

How can I access this support?

  1. Reach out to your Personal Academic Tutor. If you are experiencing challenges which are expected to last longer than 14 days.

  2. Gather your evidence for why you need a TLA. Look below to see what circumstances can be used to access the support.

  3. Attend a meeting with them. During the development discussion, you will begin drafting the support identified as necessary.

  4. Approval from your Course Director. Your PAT will pass it on to your Course Director to approve the plan.

It is important to note that you can access a maximum of two 7-day self-certification extensions, no questions asked. This may be useful while waiting for the TLA to be processed.
