What is a temporary learning agreement (TLA)?
Once the Extenuating Circumstances Requests have been exhausted, you can initiate a conversation with your Personal Academic Tutor to get support. These are used when circumstances last longer than 14 days. Students must meet the eligibility criteria - found here.

These must be completed in time for the final sign-off board of examiners in a year, enabling you to progress or complete your degree within the original timeframe.
How can I access this support?
- Reach out to your Personal Academic Tutor. If you are experiencing challenges which are expected to last longer than 14 days.
- Gather your evidence for why you need a TLA. Look below to see what circumstances can be used to access the support.
- Attend a meeting with them. During the development discussion, you will begin drafting the support identified as necessary.
- Approval from your Course Director. Your PAT will pass it on to your Course Director to approve the plan.
It is important to note that you can access a maximum of two 7-day self-certification extensions, no questions asked. This may be useful while waiting for the TLA to be processed.
