Contraception plays an important role in practicing safe sex! Contraception can reduce the chance of an unplanned pregnancy, and in some cases reduce your risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection. There is a huge variety of contraception to choose from, and it is important that you find the right type (and the right fit!) to suit you.
Condoms are the most commonly used form of contraception and are helpful for protecting you against most sexually transmitted diseases. There is a couple of important things to note when using a condom:
Where can I get contraception?
Get free contraception from Christ Church Students’ Union.
You can also sign up for the Metro “Get It” scheme to collect free condoms, lube, femidoms and dental dams from all over Kent. Find out where you can use your Get IT card here.
If you want to talk to a Sexual Health practitioner about different contraception options available to you, which may include:
- A pill (different types available)
- An injection every 8-12 weeks
- An implant that requires replacing every 3 years
- A coil which requires replacing every 5-10 years
You can text 07538077485 or call 0300 790 0245 to book in at The Gate Clinic in Canterbury. If you are not local to and/or not studying at the Canterbury campus you can find your nearest NHS sexual health clinic here.
It’s important you speak with a sexual health professional to find the right contraception for you. Remember, if you start on a contraception which gives you unpleasant side effects, you can always speak to a sexual health professional about trying something new.
