Nights out should be fun, safe, and full of good memories not fear or uncertainty. But for many students, concerns about drink spiking and personal safety are very real, and far too often, these conversations come with an uncomfortable layer of victim blaming.
Ali, your SU President, is launching a campaign to tackle this head-on – raising awareness about spiking, promoting student safety, and most importantly, shifting the focus away from blaming victims and onto changing the culture.
Because let’s be clear: It is never the fault of someone who has been spiked.
It’s not about what they wore, what they drank, or whether they were out alone. The blame lies with the person who chose to do harm.
This campaign is about creating a community where we look out for one another, where people feel safe speaking up, and where no one is made to feel ashamed for something that was done to them.
There will be tips linked to this page on staying safe on a night out and also whilst on placement. Anti-Spiking kits will be handed out in events organised by the SU to provide a layer of peace of mind.
