Campaign Purpose
Women In Sport is a campaign aimed at celebrating and uplifting our female athletes across CCCU and UKC while addressing the issues of Period Poverty affecting our students.
Why are we doing it?
Across both Universities we have a vast array of incredibly talented women in sport. This year we want to take the opportunity to celebrate and recognise our female athletes. This campaign will showcase their achievements, break stereotypes and hopefully inspire a future generation of female athletes at CCCU and UKC.
This campaign isn’t just for our female athletes. We want everyone to feel apart of a more diverse and inclusive community by coming together and celebrating each others successes.
One of the key components of this Women in Sport campaign will be highlighting and raising awareness around the issues of period poverty. Sport England’s research shows us that 39% of girls say having their period stops them taking part in sport, we hope this campaign can be a stepping stone in helping reduce period poverty as one of the biggest barriers girls say impacts their participation in sport.
What are we doing?
In collaboration with Kent Students' Union, we have created a video celebrating and showcasing female athletes from both CCCU and UKC. This was released on International Women’s Day and featured over 50 students from each University.
Throughout the week we will be encouraging spectators to wear pink and purple, especially on Sunday which will feature a Women in Sport day at CCCU Sports Centre that will include performances, giveaways and a female DJ throughout the day.
We will also have freebies for teams to wear like face paints, ribbons and noisemakers. Grab a picture with our #WomenInSport instagram placards and tag us @christ_church_lions
To help reduce the impact of Period Poverty for our students, QR codes will accessible throughout Varsity for spectators and players to donate.
All money donated will be spent on period products that will be free for students to use on our campuses.
