Hello Everyone,
I'd like to share with you what I've been up to during Term 1, including my campaigns:
- eVisa Campaign: One of the biggest successes this term was the eVisa campaign, which resulted in many students getting their visa issues resolved on the same day. This was a critical win for our international student community, reducing stress and uncertainty.
- Well-Being & Safety Initiatives: Continued efforts to enhance safety around campus, particularly for students travelling late at night, through workshops and community collaborations. Have resolved the lighting issue around the campus so students feel safe to be around the campus at night times.
- No Guarantor Campaign: I’ve been actively supporting the NUS initiative advocating for no guarantor student housing to ease financial stress for students
- Cost of living: Engaged with local politicians and university officials to address housing and Cost of Living issues in Kent
- Term Letter Initiative: Worked closely with the university to address the lack of individual term letters, a service not currently offered. Many students were negatively impacted by this, as some employers require a term-time letter to grant full-time work. By advocating for this change, we’re aiming to provide students with the tailored proof of enrollment they need for various purposes, including employment.
I'm excited to build on this momentum in Term 2!
Best regards,
Ali Ghega
