CCSU Wrapped 2023/24

As the academic year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect and share some of the great activities, campaigns, events, and stats you were part of in 2023-24.

Your CCSU building:

  • Your Students' Union building opened on Thursday 14th September 2023, which was made possible by a £750,000 investment by the University and a £250,000 investment by us
  • We gave away 6,640 hot drinks from our free coffee machine (51.5kg of coffee beans, 47.7kg of powdered milk, 28.8kg of hot chocolate powder, and 1698 litres of hot water!)
  • You visited your CCSU building 30,628 times

Campaigns:

  • Got Enough On Your Plate? - a campaign about healthy eating and nutrition, which had 300+ students in attendance. We gave out 200 magazines about healthy eating habits
  • Men's Mental Health campaign - raising awareness of men's mental health, which had 400+ students in attendance
  • Academic Support campaign - highlighting support available at University for Christ Church students, which had 200+ students in attendance

Student voice:

  • 3,716 of you voted to elect your Student Leadership team
  • We gave away 817 free campus pantry meals
  • Over 100 of you attended the Vice-Chancellor's Q&A session, where you told the VC you want more support with IT, finance, visas and academic issues
  • You received 203 nominations and 40 awards in 17 different categories at the annual Student Voice and Golden Apple Awards

Events:

  • 629 of you participated in our free Give it a Go! events, including trips to Leeds Castle, Wildwood, and Winter Wonderland
  • Over 400 of you attended our international food fayres, sampling food from 23 different countries
  • Over 3,000 of you attended 35 Varsity fixtures - rugby had over 1,400 attendees, football had over 1,000 attendees, and netball had over 700 attendees
  • We gave out over 60 hot chocolates, 60 Twix bars, 80 cupcakes, 80 bananas, and 80 apples during Stress Less
  • We hosted an Eco-Hope event, providing you with a clothes swap and upcycling station
  • We hosted an International Poetry Night, where you recited poetry in your own language 

Sports clubs and societies:

  • 701 of you are members of a sports club
  • 800 of you are members of a society
  • We trained 67 committee members ready for September 2024
  • We gave out 15 sports awards and 87 colours awards at the Sports Federation Awards
  • We gave out 7 society awards and 35 colours awards at the Society Awards
  • We have 24 of your sports teams in BUCS
  • We gave £4,300 to you for access to opportunities
