As part of LGBT History Month, this week (22nd-26th February) we're celebrating Trans and Non-Binary Awareness. We are raising awareness about the issues faced by the trans community, as well as working to educate our students and groups around the role they can play to stop transphobia and hate crime.
Reports of LGBT+ hate crime are on the rise, with cases tripling over the last 5 years. From 2019-2020, the South East had the highest number of Transphobic incidents reported than any other area in England. With four in five cases of LGBT+ related hate crime going unreported, the number is in reality like to be much higher.
We at Christ Church Students’ Union want all of our students to feel welcome. We are committed to fighting homophobia, transphobia and any other form of discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ students.
