Chloe's farewell blog

It's been a hell of a journey but here I am in my final week of being an Officer. Before my final days next week I thought I'd do a quick round up of my Officer journey.

It's been a hell of a journey but here I am in my final week of being an Officer. Before my final days next week I thought I'd do a quick round up of my Officer journey.

As a Sabbatical team this year we worked more than ever to create a collaborative and positive working relationship as a team and it definitely paid off. Not only did we work on our own manifestos, we came together to create THE BIG 9 joint manifesto.

Between everything else that goes on in the life of an Officer we somehow managed to work on our own personal manifestos too. Before I came into the role I wanted to create better wellbeing provision within sport and increase and maintain that sense of belonging and engagement within Team Christ Church. Here are bits and bobs that I've done to try and achieve this:

  • Implementation of wellbeing officers into every sports club, along with training from the University's Wellbeing dept.

  • Re-structure of Final Whistles. Every Wednesday evening teams are now able to host a takeover night. The stage is there's to engage sports clubs into on-stage activities while raising money for charity.

  • Recently I have devised a statement and now working on creating a section of the CCSU website around Transgender Policies within Sport. The aim of this is for members to have an understanding of their NGB's stance on those who identify as Transgender, partaking in sport & the rules and regs around this.

  • Devised guidelines on bullying & harassment at University & within Team Christ Church. Bullying is hard to define particularly with the current generation interacting more online everyday. The aim of these guidelines is so that more of our students are aware that bullying still happens in a University environment. The guidelines essentially educate our members on what bullying and harassment may look like physically and online, so together we can make Team Christ Church a more inclusive community.

  • Together the President (Development) & I worked with our exec committees to bridge the gap between sports and societies and in the 6 years of being a part of CCSU I believe this is the most progress that has been made in creating an environment for all our clubs & socs to feel unified.

  • Following from the previous point, at the beginning of this term we created joint committee training for both socs & sports. Along with the President (Dev) we organised a social between the socs & sports execs to increase that unity and alliance from the very top

  • Now onto Varsity. Working with other members of our Ops group we introduced societies into Varsity for the first time, we also changed the points scoring system to change things up a bit & initiated a new theme around inclusion. I also opened conversation into improving our Summer Varsity timetable by introducing new activities however COVID-19 put that on hold. This has been passed onto my successor to hopefully continue.

  • The rebrand of my exec committee from Sports Exec to Team Christ Church Exec was a decision that strengthened the Team Christ Church image. With this also came the restructure of being more transparent about what goes on behind the scenes and allowing execs to be a part of SU & University meetings.

  • Other bits have included enhancing the working relationship with Christ Church Sport, organising Union on Tours, hosting Sports Fed, introducing Sports Person of the Week, creating a Team Christ Church exec Instagram to better online engagement, the general maintenance of sports clubs, improving communication and transparency with sports teams, working with Estates to improve our Stodmarsh venue, better exposure for clubs charity events online, 2 successfully organised This Christ Church Girl Can campaigns.

This list could probably go on a bit longer, but i'll stop there.

I have saved my super long goodbye message for my final day but I did just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported me in achieving everything I did. This role has become part of my identity and knowing there's less than a week left scares me A LOT. But again thank you to everyone who was a massive part in supporting me as an officer, the CCSU team who i've had the pleasure working with, the University staff, my exec committees, THE STUDENTS, the Team Christ Church community, and the friends I've held onto and gained along the way.

Thank you Team Christ Church!!!
