Following our statement in May 2022, the National Union of Students UK (NUS) has now published its findings following an independent investigation into antisemitism.
Rebecca Tuck KC was commissioned to lead an independent investigation looking at recent allegations of antisemitism, as well as historic matters and broader culture within the National Union of Students.
The Director of NUS UK has said “the KC’s report is a detailed and shocking account of antisemitism within the student movement. It is a truly difficult read for all of us but we welcome the clarity it brings to enable us to act with confidence to tackle antisemitism head on. There is no place for antisemitism within NUS and we are committed to ensuring that Jewish students feel safe and welcome in every corner of our movement.”
Following a vote in October, Christ Church students voted to continue to be affiliated with NUS and we believe all students should be confident that NUS should represent them and speak for all students. The NUS has released an Action Plan of how they will seek to use the recommendations from the independent report to tackle antisemitism in all its forms across the breadth and depth of NUS.
Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion sit within the core values of Christ Church Students’ Union, and we condemn all racism and antisemitism. We are supportive of the action NUS are taking with external reviews and developing an action plan to address the concerns raised. We will play our part in holding NUS to account for their past and future actions when it comes to antisemitism.
We would like to affirm our own proud and unwavering commitment to understanding and tackling antisemitism in all its forms. Christ Church Students’ Union staff and Sabbatical Officers are committed to attending training on antisemitism by the Union of Jewish Students.
