Mature Students Society

The point in having a ‘’mature student’’ society is to bring mature students in years and/or attitude together.  To create a pool of email addresses, mobile telephone numbers etc. so mature students can have and enjoy a social life whilst at university and avoid feeling in the minority, isolated or alienated.  It may be that you do not live in Canterbury itself and therefore have not had the opportunity to meet people outside the classroom, you may be the only mature student in your class and have not had the opportunity of meeting others.  You might like to use the student bar but don’t feel confident to go in alone or feel out of place or be mistaken for a teacher!   You may not of studied for many years or not be totally I.T. literate, you may need support from other mature students that might be going through or feeling the same thing.

The aim of the society is to build up a network of mature students so any time you want to pop into the student bar, see a film, go to an exhibition etc. you will be able to find somebody to go with.  So students can make suggestions, let others know if something interesting is going on and generally put the word out and find people to accompany them to the event.

The idea would be to fix a monthly meet up in the student bar for those that wish to attend.  During this meet up we could have an informal drink (bring a friend, wife, husband if you like), a chat, make suggestions and socialise.  We may not be “party animals” but would still enjoy a good drink and a chat!

Eventually we would create a Mature Student web page on facebook so we have a forum and are able to post things of interest and stay in touch easily.  The membership would be just £1 which is the lowest possible.
